I’ve noticed that the monthly backup for each country (<region>-251001.osm.pbf) isn’t available this month. It still exists for continents, but not for countries nor subregions.
(Geofabrik download server admin here) - no idea why. There’s a cleanup job that is supposed to clean up old files but leave the first of each month; unsure why it apparently cleaned away more than it should have. I’ll give this a closer look over the weekend and restore any missing files.
When I was looking for files on Oct. 1 (in the US subregions) I noticed that the only files were from the prior day, but then Oct. 2’s files showed up the next day. I think it may be that the files were never published, as opposed to published and then deleted. This is just based on recollection, though, it’s not like I have screenshots or know exact times.
I found out that the problem was indeed what Peter wrote above; due to a glitch, the files had not been produced in the first place. I thought about re-creating them but since they would only be on the server for three months anyway, I decided against. (The glitch meant that the 02 October diff contained diffs between the 30 Sept and 02 Oct versions for those extracts; retroactively providing an extract for which there are no matching diffs sounded like asking for trouble.)
If you need a specific file for the 01 October data version I’m happy to make that for you.
Is there any particular difference between the extracts you keep (monthly, yearly) and the regular daily extracts? If so, please, I’ll be glad with the spain-251001 and canary-islands-251001 files, thanks
That’s not what I was asking for, I meant which extract strategy is used to create the files. Maybe they are not being created using osmium and these strategies do not apply, but that was what I wanted to know: if all extracts are generated in the same way or not.
@woodpeck Might this have something to do with why the OSMI Routing view has been down for at least the past couple weeks? (I emailed the address as it instructed with full details a week and a half ago, but thus far have not gotten any response—its a really useful tool and one I routinely check in my mapping).
No, these two issues are completely unrelated. I saw your message to info ‘at’ geofabrik but didn’t have time to investigate properly. It appears that the “islands_all” view is broken; if you disable that checkbox on the left hand side the rest works normally. I’ll find out what exactly the problem is and hopefully fix it later today.
