You should still document a change for this and reach out for any obvious typo NOW.

I never did it in big numbers and the few times when I remotely fiddled with what I expected to be a typo (e.g. clean up a few instances after iD had some craft=sculpter typo in its preset or similar) I tried to verify them one by one with the help of aerial imagery or, failing this, wrote to the creator.

I don’t think you have to document these in the wiki, writing to the authors could be ok to avoid they repeat the tag. If there were 20000, you shouldn’t just do the same, then I would expect a proposal.
