Garmin IMG file specification

Greetings,

Since purchasing a Garmin GPSmap 62s. I have downloaded and installed an IMG file created here: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/. Very nice!

The file would be useful to use in another application. Is a specification describing the file available?

I use another application that downloads tiles and the IMG file could be a very nice alternative.
