At SotM conferences half the time people’s name badges are reversed so their name doesn’t show up, and instead all one can see is meal information, etc.
E.g., we zoom in on a conference photo but can’t tell who the person is because their badge has spun around 180°. It happens unless you glue it down, as the lanyard is long.
I have a revolutionary idea: simply print the name side on the back too.
Thus no matter if during a lecture, or at the disco, the name side shows up.
The meal info usually is just there else the back is wasted. Well, the back is just as important as the front, because half the time that’s the side others will see.
Oh, and be sure to collect the plastic holder at the end of conferences to recycle I guess.
Some of the most fun bits of SOTM US '25 were the conversations that, halfway in, turned to “So wait, what’s your username?” only for us to realize we’ve already spoken many times online (looking at you, @mycota!! :D)
The same thing’s happened a few times at our OSM Seattle meetups and it’s always a joy
Are you sure that’s not intentional? I’ve seen it used as a subtle way to hide the name without completely removing the badge.
If you drive around 2 tons of steel and plastic at high speeds, you don’t get to have anonymity, that’s true. Even then, there is no public database that correlates the licence plate with the owner. So not quite comparable.
