We own some land which has a footpath on it. It is on the UK definitive map and in 2015 it was diverted by Essex County Council. We made the application and it went through unopposed. Mostly over the last 10 years it has been respected but in one location we have had a lot of damage, breaking down fences, destroying hedges. I assumed it was just petty criminal damage but I just discovered a couple of days ago that a small segment of the old route is still showing on openstreet maps and am guessing this may be why.
I have explained the situation to the person who correctly added the route originally and have added a note to the mapping.
Obviously I want to delete this but what is the best way to do this? I thought just leave my comment on the system a month or two and then remove with an added comment.
Many thanks for reporting this. I’ve just tidied up the footpath mapping and remove the stile and stub path that you say no longer exist.
The online map at OpenStreetMap should update in a few minutes (though you might need to press refresh). Any apps and downstream users that use OSM date may take longer (possibly weeks/months) to update.
