Finland - Advanced Map Editing: Validate and Fix Water Objects

Hello OSM Finland,

Today I am announcing a new MapRoulette challenge Finland - Advanced Map Editing: Validate and Fix Water Objects (MapRoulette) aims to improve OpenStreetMap (OSM) data by identifying and correcting issues with inland water bodies like rivers.

Why is it important?

  • Accurate Maps: Having accurate and precise water features like rivers and lakes improves the overall accuracy of OSM data. The more precise the data and information, the more valuable it is for the entire OpenStreetMap community with changes benefiting everyone who uses OSM maps in different applications, use cases and emergency response situations.

  • An example case: Environmental Monitoring: OSM water data can be used to track changes in water bodies over time. This can help scientists and institutes to monitor things like floods, droughts, pollution, and climate change effects.

Please note that this challenge is intended for experienced mappers due to the complex edits required for relations (e.g., changing member roles, removing incorrect members).

You can find more details and resources on the challenge page. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Best regards,
