Finding source of GPX data

I am sure that there must be a way to do this but I cannot for the life of me find it.

In an area that I am currently mapping there are a series of GPX traces (that download when I download OSM data) that do not look like tracks from a GPS receiver. They are disconnected line segments and seem to closely follow water features.

I am interested to know the source of these and whether they cover just a local area or a wider area - suggesting some form of automation. At worst they could be GPX traces from copyrighted material.

But how do If find, at the very least the originator of these tracks?

Does this topic on help.osm.org help?

Thanks,

At the very least that has enabled me to find the originator of the traces in question. Turns out that the traces are generated from the OS Street View data by a mapper who seems to know what he is doing. So puts to rest any worry about copyright infringement.
