Extract data from Geofabrik or Plantet xml file

Hi there community;

Im really newbie with programming.

If i download files from geofabrik (osm.pbf file)

When i convert it to xml the files are really big, and impossible to manage them, so the same when i download Latest Weekly Planet XML File (68gb).

I need to extract: this info from any of those or other file: street name, postal code, restaurants.

How can extract that info or wich program i should use, because using excel is impossible (the size is really big).

Can you elaborate on this? It may well be that you’re trying to do the wrong thing, but if you tell us more about what you want to achieve, we could help you find a solution. So not HOW, but WHAT you want to do.
