After looking at examples of highway=footway oneway=yes
around the world, some initial impressions:
- Germany: most results are shared-use sidewalks. They tend to have
bicycle=yes
orbicycle=designated
. It’s fairly clear from this context that the oneway was meant for bicycles only. - UK: most results are in shopping centres, zoos, etc., they don’t tend to have
bicycle
tags, theoneway
was probably meant for pedestrians - South America: similar to UK. Airport, museums, other indoor uses. A relatively rare combination
- US: Broadly similar to UK and South America. E.g. a nature trail, with
bicycle=no
, sooneway
clearly meant for pedestrians. An underground cave. Airports again, amusement parks. - China, India: the combination barely exists. Of course these are generally under-mapped countries compared with Europe
