Effect of oneway on pedestrians?

After looking at examples of highway=footway oneway=yes around the world, some initial impressions:

  • Germany: most results are shared-use sidewalks. They tend to have bicycle=yes or bicycle=designated. It’s fairly clear from this context that the oneway was meant for bicycles only.
  • UK: most results are in shopping centres, zoos, etc., they don’t tend to have bicycle tags, the oneway was probably meant for pedestrians
  • South America: similar to UK. Airport, museums, other indoor uses. A relatively rare combination
  • US: Broadly similar to UK and South America. E.g. a nature trail, with bicycle=no, so oneway clearly meant for pedestrians. An underground cave. Airports again, amusement parks.
  • China, India: the combination barely exists. Of course these are generally under-mapped countries compared with Europe
