What would everyone here like me to do? If there is still a problem with the edits being made I can continue applying blocks escalating in length of time, but the net result will be that they will eventually stop mapping - they have not shown themselves capable of interacting with other people (not just my experience - see the comments above).
If people are happy that the edits are a net benefit to OSM, despite the problems, then I’d be more than happy to let them continue.
I have reviewed their recent edits and I have to say I’m not amused with them. While some are ok, many of them fundamentally go against my mapping philosophy. My main problem with these recent edits is that AnkEric_DONE is splitting minor highways that branch off major roads here the cycleway of the major road crosses the minor road. Imo these parts always belong with each other. As the reason the first part is built is entirely for the second part.
If AnkEric_DONE did these types of edits in my area I would revert them right away. So, to answer you’re question: I’m am currently not happy with these edits.
Like I said earlier I do not mind if mappers want to map without discussing or adding a comment, but this changes when the edits are controversial.
I agree as well, this is ridiculous. I mean, adding bicycle=use_sidepath or so is one thing, but this is plain wrong. The purpose of those pieces of road is not an “unclassified” highway but it serves merely as an entrance to the driveway => highway=service. (Yes, I’m locally familiar in that area, come there once every few months)
So I wouldn’t mind a couple additional blocks until he communicated here and works in line with community consensus.
Alas, Discourse hides who the “please revert” request was aimed at. These changes are normally small edits that are easily revertable by one of many means, but anyone would like me to help with a revert, please email data@openstreetmap.org with a subject of “Re: [Ticket#2022072310000116] [OpenStreetMap] Re: Issue #21332 (User “AnkEric_DONE”)” and details of the changeset to revert and and it’ll wake up the ticket.
Clearly it was that this changeset is the culprit.
I guess there must be more alike.
I fully support Tjuro’s comment; I don’t know why exactly AncE does this, but in my eyes this is similar as mapping for the renderer: some kind of mapping practice that serves, if at all, other, AncE’s private - and not shared with the community - purposes than making a good map.
Further I have (privately though) strong objections to map all short meaningless single-used private paths (don’t call these driveways) to every house; these are not service roads imho.
