Stockport Market is a little gem, and the mapping for it was poor, so I decided to fix it up following the Simple Indoor Tagging guidelines. My interest was mostly in getting all the traders on the map (previously only a few were) and giving people a way of seeing what’s inside without having to make the trip (which will hopefully encourage people to make the trip!).
Here’s a link in OpenLevelUp and in OpenStreetMap. I did the mapping by surveying the stalls and counting their distances using the valleys of the roof, which I could match up with the aerial map to approximate distance. I marked them up as “rooms” because technically they are mostly rooms with big windows ![]()
With an eye to getting this data in the most useful places, is there anything I could do better? Is there anything wrong with the way I tagged up the space? I don’t really want to get into “micro-mapping” (someone else is welcome to) but I’d like to make sure it’s structured such that it’s going to be used ![]()
