Hello @caprieldeluca,
Andrew Wiseman is no longer the community lead for our team. If you have any questions or concerns, our current community lead is @LessThan3Nodes, who can be reached via OSM direct message or by email at osm-feedback@group.apple.com.
We are always happy to engage with the community regarding our edits and aim to respond to OSM comments and direct messages within two days. In this case, we responded within that timeframe on changesets 184511115 and 184463586. After you reached out, we restored the ways in question to *_link classifications, as we value the input of the Argentina OSM community. We also frequently reach out proactively to local communities to ask questions or discuss mapping before making edits. Likewise, we encourage community members to comment on our changesets whenever they disagree with #adt edits so we can discuss the reasoning and work toward a shared understanding.
Regarding your concerns, we always aim to review and resolve JOSM validation warnings before uploading edits, but mistakes do occasionally happen. I apologize for the oversight in this case, and I appreciate you taking the time to bring it to our attention.
As for the subjectivity of *_link classifications in certain situations, our goal is to follow community preference while using the surrounding road network, existing mapping patterns, and both country-specific and global OSM guidelines to inform our edits. The intention behind these edits was to be consistent with similar nearby junctions where the base highway classification is carried through the junction rather than using *_link classifications, such as ways 265352149, 254667635, 254688225, and way 1373574968. Based on the surrounding data, this appeared to reflect the established local mapping pattern. This also follows the OSM Wiki’s general guidance for highway links (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Highway_link), as this at-grade connection does not involve physically separated external turn lanes, and instead appears to just be the beginning of Avenida Belgrano.
After considering your feedback on naming and looking into this further, what do you think about using Secondary for the Western way 1046059581, with the name “Avenida General Güemes”, and using Tertiary for the Northern way 385934734, with the name “Avenida Belgrano”. If this modeling sounds good to you, I’d be happy to make that update or if you would prefer to keep these as links we can retain them as is.
Country-specific wiki documentation on this topic would be valuable, as it would provide contributors with a clear reference for these types of situations, promote consistency across the map, and help future editors make informed decisions that align with community expectations.
Hopefully this helps answers your question, and I’m happy to discuss further.
