Easy MapRoulette challenges to improve Railway & Metro Stations in India (Beginner-friendly)

I’ve created a MapRoulette challenge focused on improving railway and metro station data in India by adding missing official station codes using the ref= tag.

These challenges are very easy and relaxed — perfect for moments when:

  • you’re bored and want to do something useful on OSM,
  • you’ve just finished some complex or hard edits and want to chill,
  • or you’re new to MapRoulette and want a simple way to get started.

The tasks involve looking up verified station codes from reliable sources (such as Wikipedia, Indian Railways, or official metro websites) and adding them to existing stations. If a code can’t be confidently verified, the task can be marked as “Can’t Complete”.

Feedback is welcome, especially from experienced mappers.

Happy mapping, and thanks to everyone who contributes!

Hi, shouldn’t the railway refs be stored in Key:railway:ref - OpenStreetMap Wiki instead?

Hello, but OSM India Wiki says this:-

Reference code ref=MAS Official station code used by the railways in ALLCAPS.

You can see the Indian wiki here.

I would really appreciate if you would help in this challenge instead of trying to point out mistakes.

Just tried clicking on the “links” you have there, but they’re apparently not actually links to anything?

Thanks and I have fixed it but I will really appreciate if you would do the challenge itself instead of pointing out mistakes

My reason for asking (with DWG hat on) is that the link you have given Welcome to Indian Railway Passenger Reservation Enquiry shows as being <© 2017, Centre For Railway Information Systems>

What licence (if any) is that data released under, and/or do we have permission from he Indian Govt to use it for mapping purposes?
