DWG received a complaint about user Mazda05© | OpenStreetMap who is renaming settlements back to their previous name. I’m trying to verify if their work is correct or not. Any help would be much appreciated.
Good day. Mazda05© | OpenStreetMap — this is my second login. The changesets of II V = | OpenStreetMap have been reverted because they had no basis or reason to do so. The details were communicated to the participant in the comments on the changesets Changeset: 157049876 | OpenStreetMap, Changeset: 156860869 | OpenStreetMap, Changeset: 156831957 | OpenStreetMap. There was no response or action to correct the edits from him.
Reasons for reverting:
- there is no basis for changes in transportation facilities such as airports, railway stations etc;
- there is no basis for changing the names of territorial communities/hromada (a basic unit of administrative division in Ukraine);
- the historical names of the settlements were removed by him, which is not consistent with the Good practice - OpenStreetMap Wiki;
- the change of names of settlements was made by the draft resolution of the Parliament, not by the resolution of the Parliament. The list of settlements in the resolution is different from the draft resolution. Way: Курісове (359176162) | OpenStreetMap, for example;
- the parliamentary resolution Про перейменування окремих н... | від 19.09.2024 № 3984-IX on changing the names of settlements and districts was adopted by the Parliament on 19.09.2024, published on 25.09.2024 and became effective on 26.09.2024. The user’s edits were made between 19.09.2024 15:58 (EEST) and 24.09.2024 20:21 (EEST), when the final list of changes hadn’t even been published yet.
The reverting of edits was discussed between the community in chat. There was also information from my side about the rollback at the time of the rollback. There were no objections from the community.
After the cancellation, I was followed up with a private message from andergrin | OpenStreetMap asking me to explain the reason for reverting the names, to which a detailed explanation was given. I have not received any comments or messages from anyone else on this matter.
At this point, some users are already making changes to the names without the flaws that II V = | OpenStreetMap made.
Best Regards, Mazda05

In case the explanation provided by @Mazda05 is detailed enough could we consider reported issue as settled?
After reviewing the changesets made by user Mazda05 and consulting with the Ukrainian community, the DWG has decided not to revert the changeset. We believe that Mazda05 followed the established practices within the Ukrainian community and also communicated his actions in the community’s Telegram chat. In light of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, the country is undergoing various transformations, including efforts to remove the remnants of its colonial past—consequences of Russia’s centuries-long occupation. Renaming settlements, including restoring historical Ukrainian names, is one part of this process. Therefore, we believe his actions in correcting premature changes were fully in line with project rules."
