Ich sehe da nur bedingt einen Widerspruch. Duplex ist eigentlich ein Zweifamilienhaus, das kann, muss aber nicht, ein Doppelhaus sein. In der Regel ist es aber einfach ein Haus mit zwei Wohnungen oder einer Wohnung über zwei Etagen. Duplex kann aber in einigen Gegenden auch das Doppelhaus meinen. Ob da Doppelhaus die korrekte Übersetzung ist oder doch Doppelhaushälfte, vermag ich nicht zu beurteilen

In the United Kingdom, the term duplex is more often used by property professionals such as architects and estate agents and refers only to a flat or apartment on two floors connected by an inner staircase though many newer apartments have open-plan designs including mezzanines. The far more commonly used term is ‘maisonette’.
