Documenting street:name use for parking areas in Berlin

Hello,

When looking at street:name=* (Key:street:name - OpenStreetMap Wiki) I noticed that a substantial amount of uses has recently been added in Berlin:

Per worldwide Taginfo, there are about 17 500 uses of street:name. Per Germany-wide Taginfo, there are almost 9000 uses in Germany, 8500 of which are on objects that also have amenity and parking keys. Per Berlin Taginfo, there are 8 479 uses of this combination in Berlin, almost all added in 2025.

I assume this has been used to tag the name of the street for streetside parking areas. I was wondering if this usage is mentioned or documented somewhere, like some mailing list or forum or project? I couldn’t find anything on the OSM wiki, and the main page Key:street:name - OpenStreetMap Wiki only discusses the tag in context of sidewalks. I added a short note there that it’s also used on parking in Germany. I don’t think using the tag in this context is wrong, but just want to have information to add to the wiki for the record.

We are currently adding street:name tags in the context of organized editing activities of street parking in Berlin. I’ll have a look into better documentation later today.
