There are two operation modes of cable ferries. A pendulum cable ferry can only have one vessel and a circular cable ferry can have multiple vessels. When you assign a duration to a pendulum cable ferry, the expected river crossing time is the 1.5x duration, because there is a 50 % chance that the ferry is on the correct side of the river. A circular cable ferry with two vessels does not have this limitation (let us ignore the interval). Currently, “ferry:cable=yes” is used for both pendulum and circular cable ferries. How can both types be distinguished from each other, so that the duration can be estimated correctly?
