Different colours in "Other topics"

Just clearing my unread posts & noticed something a bit odd with the list of other topics that appear

Why are 2 of them shown in different (slightly different?) colours?

Is it only an indicator of how many posts there are in that topic?

Just to confirm, do you mean the reply counts 208 and 57 being shown in kind of orange and brown colour?

That’s it, yes

Generally that means they are “hot” topics, but it should be really this case as “hot” would denote “several replies within last few days”.
I noticed this thing several times in Discourse, and I assume it’s just a generic notion of how many replies there are in the topics. In other words, color based on the number of replies, it looks like it starts from 50+.

Doesn’t always seem to?

Just looking at the list of “Topics” & there are a couple of coloured ones with only 11 & 12 replies, including 1 witha reply this morning, but the previous reply in early Dec 2025?

Per What does a red reply count mean - #4 by JammyDodger - Support - Discourse Meta, the views count is highlighted for threads with more views, and the replies column is highlighted for threads with higher likes-to-posts ratio. The “likes” count seems to be the sum of positive reactions on posts in the thread, the number can be seen underneath the first post of the thread:

That’s from Request for Comments for the European Open Digital Ecosystem Strategy which has 10 posts and 19 likes right now, and is highlighted in the topic list as medium orange for me.
