the DWG has been alerted to a discussion about the deletion of CAI hiking routes that may or may not be properly signposted, see Changeset: 168439871 | OpenStreetMap .
I have reverted the deletion for now but I am not saying that the deletion was wrong; it is possible that after some discussion, the community will agree to delete these hiking routes and the DWG would totally support that decision. It’s just something that should be discussed.

I’m a third party and not directly involved, so I believe I can provide an objective view.
In general, I think that if a route has no markers or guideposts on the ground, it should not be mapped. This requirement helps prevent the proliferation of unofficial routes, which can make the map harder to interpret.
In this specific case, it also seems clear that these routes are not even intended to be promoted to the general public. The only references I could find on the CAI Seregno website appear in the calendar of internal tours for members. A person who is not an associate would have difficulty finding that information.
Since these routes appear to be intended only for use by the local association, I don’t think they qualify to be mapped.
On the other hand, if CAI Seregno wishes to promote these routes to the wider public, it certainly can, as part of the national CAI. However, that would require at least some public documentation of the routes and the placement of visible markers or guideposts on the ground.
I live in a nearby area, and here the local CAI has done exactly that: they created many new routes, with proper documentation on their website and clear signs and plaques along the paths.
It couldn’t be clearer than that.
I totally agree with you, amadvance, maybe ‘cause I live in a nearby town hence I know the CAI activities in these lands.
These routes has no markers or guideposts DEDICATED. They simply trails on existing paths linking some of them. The absence of a direct link from the OSM routes and the physical signals on the ground is the mean reason that brought me to delete them.

La relazione Meda-Mortorfano integrale sarà ricaricata al più presto con tutte le modifiche ed integrazioni del caso. Una bozza è stata appena caricata.
E’ una falsità dire che “i percorsi NON sono destinati a essere promossi al grande pubblico” il nostro sito è PUBBLICO e ha mediamente dai 3000 ai 4000 accessi Mensili, in oltre siamo presenti sui social anche loro PUBBLICI.
Non commento il fatto che il Sig.Cortix CANCELLI una relazione per poi reinserirla alla sua maniera….
Con la presente vorrei sottolineare che TUTTE ripeto TUTTE le relazioni sono frutto di sopraluoghi sul terreno, e che NESSUNA sottolineo NESSUNA è frutto di operazioni da tavolino.
Prima di fare tali relazioni sono state fatte innumerevoli MIGLIORIE ALLA MAPPA, con migliaia di aggiunte strutturali, edifici, ponti, guadi, strade, sentieri, panchine, lampioni, prese d’acqua, marciapiedi ecc.ecc. definizioni superfici dei sentieri e non solo, più sistemazioni di errori suggeriti da Josm magari fatti da altri operatori.
Nel 2017, nella mia zona, la mappa era quasi una landa desolata.

Caro Frederik, è giusto hai ragione, ma è anche giusto evidenziare il VALORE AGGIUNTO di tali relazioni.

I think that the routes should remain on the database, CAI is the organization dedicated (with some others) to maintain routes in Italy, sometimes the routes are not marked but maintained and well known from the community, authorities, etc.
CAI has a MoU with the Italian Local Chapter [0] and the OSM data are used as the main source of the official italian hiking routes database (according another MoU between CAI and Italian Government).
I hope this helps the DWG to understand better the situation

Ma questi percorsi in particolare sono documentati da qualche parte? Prendiamo ad esempio “Percorso su strade rurali” (r7314101), è difficile trovare informazioni online (il nome non aiuta, sembra più una descrizione). Inoltre non è indicata la sezione del CAI di riferimento. Dove è documentato questo percorso al di fuori di OSM? Googlando il nome sul sito di CAI Seregno si ottengono 0 risultati: link.
La convenzione è scaduta nel gennaio 2024 (“La presente convenzione ha durata triennale e potrà essere rinnovata, previa verifica tra le parti.”), è stata rinnovata?
Penso che si debba usare la Wiki internazionale e seguire il principio del “Map what you see”. Se un utente va sul campo e non trova segnavia dedicati a quella “relazione” che vede sulla mappa, è confuso.
Anche se volessimo seguire una linea più morbida, come quella della wiki italiana, e se queste relazioni rappresentano davvero un “valore aggiunto”, allora non è chiaro perché il CAI Seregno non pubblica le descrizioni di questi sentieri e non presentati un impegno o un piano, anche a lungo termine, per provvedere alla segnalazione fisica sul terreno di questi sentieri.
Per me la convenzione del CAI con OSM Italia è una questione amministrativa, “scaduta” o meno, non ci cambia niente in termini reali. OSM Italia (Wikimedia Italia), come la OpenStreetMap-Foundation globale, non può decidere cosa si mappa o come, lo scopo dei capitoli locali è finanziario e legale: Foundation/Local Chapters - OpenStreetMap Wiki
How could we see whether a route is maintained (or about to be maintained) or is abandoned (or did never exist, according to the OpenStreetMap criterion of markings on the ground)? In the OpenStreetMap view of things, if there are no signposts and markers, there is no route, hence it cannot be “maintained”, rather there can be maintenance of the paths.

La convenzione non è solo una questione amministrativa, ha anche risvolti operativi di supporto, divulgazione e coordinamento; però è vero che la convenzione non va a (nessuna convenzione può) sovrascrivere le regole scelte dalla comunità e documentate sulla wiki su quali elementi vanno mappati
Su come vengono pubblicizzati i percorsi guardare il Changeset 16843871 li viene spiegato. Per quanto riguarda l’website è vero non è segnato, è un’errore.
Visto che hai copiato i percorsi della ME MO dal sito, e siccome “Tutti i contenuti del sito sono sottoposti alle vigenti leggi del copyright” Ci fai vedere l’autorizzazione che Ti hanno rilasciato?
Ho guardato e viene linkato un calendario: Calendario eventi | Cai Seregno
Uno potrebbe pensare che sono percorsi studiati appositamente per quell’uscita, non permanenti. Inoltre non essendoci un modo per cercare un sentiero in particolare, non c’è un modo veloce per trovare informazioni su un percorso specifico, come sto cercando di fare io con “Percorso su strade rurali”.
CARTELLI E SEGNI IN VERNICE: nella preistoria venivano scolpiti sulle pietre, noi facciamo cartelli e segni in vernice, quando tutte le paline e il terreno sarà pieno di segni vedrete che i GPX andranno per la maggiore.
Dunque, a fronte dei vari pareri, possiamo trarre delle conclusioni definitive?
Sinceramente vedo molti più favorevoli alla cancellazione che al mantenimento delle relazioni.
Serve fare una votazione ufficiale?
