<! Hi-- i recently logged on to my deflock app [whose purpose is directed at mapping all of the of the spy cameras and surveillance state apparati that are publicly funded and used to track the whereabouts of every us citizen using thwir lisence plate information] and see it is rendered almost completely nonfunctional because, as a tiled banner reads “the app is not following the tile usage policy of open streetmaps’s volunteer run servers…
Let me first state that I am not a representative for deflock or flock systems or am involved in their litigation, i’m merely a citizen of this country (US) that is concerned about protecting my privacy and personal information from government clutches in this dystopic Orwellian landscape we find ourselves mired in today… i want to know more about how d flog has violated usage policies by merely allowing its users to make known the location of publicly funded surveillance devices being illegally used to bypass do you process for search warrants and allow law enforcement to track individual movements of its citizens throughout the courses of their daily activities. In what way would this application be violating your usage policy?
It concerns me that open street maps would succumb to the intimidation and bullying pressures that flock surveillance has surely placed upon your organization in attempt to pull through plug on DeFlocks campaign, when so much seems at stake in shaping ctizens rights to take stand against corporate greed and encroachment on our civil liberties. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW OPENSTREETMAPS OBJECTIONS TO DEFLOCKS USE OF THEIR MAPPING TECHNOLOGIES IN AIDING CITIZENRY TO HELP AHOW RESISTENCE TO THE IMPOSED TYRRANY THRUST UPON US.
Furthermore, OSM absolutely has the right to block access to applications that do break our usage policy. Our data is freely available, the tile servers are not.
Deflock moving from OSM’s to their own infrastructure (ongoing as of end Feb, according to a post on OSMUS’ Slack)
Given the second of those, may I suggest checking for an app update? If there is one available (and if this is indeed your problem, which it probably isn’t) it may well help.
I didn’t know whether it was a simple technical problem or politically based and wanted clarification. While I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions, i know of no other place to direct such a question/concern other than your shitty help platform. You could leave the snarky diminutive bullshit and kept it professional.
Taking a step back, do you think that it might have helped to ask your question slightly differently (perhaps with a little less caps lock in it)?
It’s one thing to ask “why is X not working any more” but it’s another to assume that was a deliberate decision rather than (as appears to be the case here) simply a cockup, and it’s another again to assume that OSMF has been “leant on” by a provider of ANPR cameras and is doing their bidding.
A fundamental principal here is “assume good faith” - I don’t think your initial post did that.
PS: We still don’t know if you still have the problem (after an app update)
