Data available on Australian government website with various CC licenses

Data such as the one linked below is available and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to upload it after permission is received and whatnot.
thanks.

Building Footprints – Greater Shepparton | Datasets | data.gov.au - beta

It would, but by my understanding, data.gov.au is just consolidating info from lots of other sites, so we would, in this case, need permission & a waiver from Shepparton City Council, not the data site.

However, please feel free to contact SCC for permission! :+1:

Just to add to @Fizzie-DWG reply, also have a read of Import/Getting permission - OpenStreetMap Wiki

This particular dataset only contains a small portion of all buildings within the LGA, likely only those owned and/or maintained by the council. Some are already mapped. So overall I don’t think it’s worth the effort here.

In general I’m supportive of importing building footprints where

  1. we have acceptable licensing,
  2. the local community is on board
  3. there is an appropriate process to,
    a) prepare the data
    b) quality check the data
    c) ensure it is of sufficient quality
    d) duplicate data is not added

Some councils also have data on their own websites, see for example the City of Casey (Melbourne) at: Explore — City of Casey's Open Data Portal
Many councils also have their own mapping websites, that which I live in (Mornington Peninsula Shire) has one of the most detailed local government asset mapping websites in Victoria with much park / street furniture and the like; I’ve got a list of these at: Spatial Sciences - Mapping links
A number of councils in Vic / NSW / WA in particular also are invovled in the A-Spec program for recording asset data - https://www.a-specstandards.com.au/ - although I have no idea if this could be used on OSM.
