Sounds like it may be an idea to offer constructive guidance and comments to the appropriate editors and the school(?) I concur with the advice given by mike Tekim

The problem may not be the students, but the instructions and training they were provided. Unfortunately, I think we are still not privy to all of this information (if we are, I missed it, and perhaps someone could provide a link). For all we know the students doing bad mapping will be given good grades and those doing good mapping will be given bad grades.
