Complaints about user KKS

Dear Ukrainian community,

the DWG has received a number of complaints about the user KKS. These include:

  • The user has removed a lot of detailed railway mapping in Ukraine from OSM, claiming “Зараз не час для детального мапінгу критичної інфраструктури країни.”
  • The user has frequently removed name:ru tags even where these names were demonstrably in use, for example the gardening association “Івушка” which is a locally used name was changed to the fabricated name “Вербка”.
  • The user generally acts as if they own the region they are mapping in, and reverts contributions they don’t like without good reason, e.g. Changeset: 169055292 | OpenStreetMap

Normally in situations like this, we would revert all name edits by the user and ask them to stop changing names in the future. We would also revert the railway revert they have committed and ask them to stop deleting data from OSM for reasons of national security.

Would this have the backing of the Ukrainian community?

The situation regarding railway mapping was briefly discussed recently in the Ukrainian community Telegram group.

Personally, the names of railway sections added there look constructed to me, but I am not confident about the rest of the edits.

Our railway mapping discussion was very brief and I voiced concern that reverting those railway edits is a nuclear option
It seems like a local specific mapping by an enthusiast, but I’m not sure about the source of the names used
I think there should’ve been a discussion started in the changesets before doing any big reverts

The other example is a very different story, ofc
I don’t have enough context for the argument in changeset discussion, but it does not look like a good faith discussion to me

I don’t know if OSM data actually helps russians destroy Ukraine infrastructure, but for sure it really could. And such behavior from 1 user to map only railway infrastructure past 6 month - really make a question what ACTUALLY he do. From 2012 - 0 edits, and then only railway edits…

Anyway with ongoing russian invasion all possible help to destroy Ukraine infrastructure should be stopped.

hi! I’m not familiar with the specific changes, but my previous experience with KKS user was negative. User is rude, and reverts the changes excessively based on his feelings. I support the actions to be taken against KKS
