Comparing the Restrictions and Possibilities of Mobile Imagery Capture Clients

Hi, all.

Like many of you, I have used a lot of imagery capturing clients in the past, in order to contribute imagery to OSM, to improve editing. I think I’m currently on my sixth client, and I have imagery scattered everywhere. I’m putting a small table together to compare the different aspects of the clients, which I will aim to publish on the OSM Wiki. If this is of interest to you, can I ask you to have a look at the following link (G/ Google Drive)

Google Sheets: Sign-in

Access Google Sheets with a personal Google account or Google Workspace account (for business use).

Once I have enough information, i’ll add this table to a suitable place on the wiki, so that future contributors can easily understand the pros and cons of using a particular client.

If you can add any initial information to this table, please do, and i’ll do the same. In case anyone is wondering, I think that Panoramax has a lot of potential, but it’s still in early development.

Just a small note: it may be helpful to retitle this thread to say “Mobile Imagery Capture Clients” instead of “Mobile Mapping Clients”. I am interested in both categories, but was expecting something different when I opened this thread!

You have a column labeled “Is captured imagery made available to OSM, to improve the map?” Does that mean apps that don’t do this are in scope/ what is scope? Private image capture apps that are useful for personal mapping?

Thanks for this, @BrechtD . I was aware of this table, and my work was intended to augment it. I’m now wondering whether I may just amend that table, rather than create a new one, which may confuse people.

I’ll look at both tables and see what the options are.
