I’m back again to discuss on an issue raised earlier since the issue persists with even greater intensity. It’s regarding a few editors from China who have been intentionally changing primary names within legally-controlled Indian territories. Link to the earlier discussion:-
I want to bring up certain editors who have been on a spree with the intent to vandalize existing names/features by adding in Chinese names to the primary. An alternate or name:zh wouldn’t be an issue as per this community’s guidelines, but this isn’t the case. Here are two accounts that have been on a spree: 3D打印 & GOJIDAN
I’m also posting a few examples of their handiwork, and I’m not yet sure how many more exist. This needs to be taken up by the team since it’s recurring and now, even bolder than ever.
A whole bunch of rivers and paths have been force changed with the original name either pushed to secondary or completely deleted. I’d appreciate any help on this as it’s an abuse of this community’s freedom and rules.
if, as probable, the vandalism goes on, refer to the DWG (data working group).
Note that at least one changeset comment translated into English is clear: Add and modify location names.
And they continue. If India is using the English names with then the latin alphabet, any name change in the region using non latin letters should be reverted.
Thanks for raising the query! I believe there are hundreds of features that have been changed such, which makes working on the border regions almost impossible. I’ve also dropped a mail on DWG. Hope this can be resolved.
If other names are wrong please comment in the changeset that made the error, explaining in detail why it is wrong. If you’d like to contact the DWG about it please email data@openstreetmap.org with a subject line of “[Ticket#2026011110000197] Forum 136349”.
