Cannot pay my membership dues for OSMUK on my own because of Paypal

(Posting this here as I cannot find a contact email anywhere on the website)
Hi, newish mapper here. I have recently joined OSMUK.
But, since the only option to pay for membership is Paypal, and Paypal requires the ability to receive verification text messages, and I have long ago given up my SIM card for privacy reasons, I had to use someone else’s Paypal account to pay for one year.
Obviously this is not sustainable.
So, is there any other way I can set up a yearly payment?
Thanks in advance.

At least in the US, PayPal has TOTP (Time-based one-time password) as an option for two factor authentication. Option labeled as “Use and authenticator app”. Is that not the case in the UK?

You can set up TOTP, but I think you still need a phone number to register a PayPal account in the first place.

Perhaps you can make a bank transfer? Alternative payment options – OpenStreetMap Foundation

I seem to recall PayPal payments might be possible without creating a PayPal account (the link to continue without account is usually quite small), but it wouldn’t entirely surprise me if PayPal has changed that up again.

The e-mail address to contact the OSM UK board is on the membership page.
https://osmuk.org/members/become-member/

Please note that they’re volunteers. OSM UK is a very small organisation with no staff. Managing membership is an admin task that can easily take up more time than doing anything else as an organisation. So try to help them out as best you can.

It might be that they can allow you to create a recurring bank transfer. If the system still sends you a renewal reminder you can be kind if they have to manually look for the transaction. But I’ve not been a board member for a long time, so I don’t know if there’s any better/automatic way of doing it.

Check out as a Guest - that way you don’t need a PayPal account. First click “Pay with Debit or Credit Card”, then go through the “Guest” route. Card verification may then want to send you a SMS text but that is dependent on your bank (mine gives the option of receiving a text or approving in the banking app) and nothing to do with PayPal.

IIRC I tried that and had problems but can’t remember what they were. Never mind. I’ll cross that bridge next year.
