Can I use any MicroSD Card in my Garmin etrex Legend HCx?

I tried to insatll a osm map on my Garmin.
I did not work. I read all the stuff here and think I am doing it all right.
However I am not getting it to work.

The SD card I try to use was in my Nokia phone. I formated it, so it should be fine for any other purpose.

Two Questions:

  • Is any SD micro card fine for the Garmin etrex Legend HCx?
  • I have got a European Map from Garmin on SD-card. Within the Folder there is another file: GMAPSUPP.UNL. Whats that?

  • Formated with NTFS or FAT32? Legends can’t read NTFS.
  • UNL=Unlock(?), not needed for OSM-Maps
  • Where did you download the gmapsup.img from? There are serveral other providers of maps. Have you tried one from an other server (just for testing)?

ÄHm … ich mach mal auf Deutsch weiter … habs beim Post schreiben verchecked.

Die SD Karte ist FAT formatiert. Also nicht FAT32 und nicht NTFS.

Und welche von den ca. 50 Karten auf der Seite hast Du runtergeladen???

Das Legend verträgt meines Wissens nicht jede Karte.

Karten mit nur einer Ebene sollten gehen, karten mit mehreren Ebenen zeigt es überhaupt nicht an. Zumindest haben wir das auf dem OSM Stammtisch so beobachtet, bei dem Versuch einem Interessenten eine Karte auf’s Legend aufzuspielen.

Die All_in_One_Garmin_Map. Ich probiere es jetzt also mal nur mit dem Teil Basemap.

Also ich noch die AI1 auf meinem Legend HCX nutzte ging das problemlos mit den 4 Ebenen.

Vielleicht sind die neueren Karten mit noch mehr Ebenen zu komplex für das Gerät…
