Can I tag a camping "toilet" as amenity=toilet?

Hello! I’m hiking the PCT and trying to improve the map as I go. Several campsites in the National Forest have “toilets”, which are basically wooden boxes with a lid on them and a pit underneath. Usually there is a sign nearby that says “Toilet” and points you in the right direction.

They are a very important part of the campsite, and I would like to add the trail to the toilet as well as the precise location of the toilet on the map. This would be in addition to toilets=yes on the campsite node.

Is this an acceptable use of amenity=toilets? I sure hope so, because it would be really nice to see them clearly marked on Osmand when I enter a campsite.

Yes. If it’s a designated place to shit, it’s a toilet. You can also tag the disposal method as something other than flush Tag:amenity%3Dtoilets#Disposal_method

If you’re using iD, “pit latrine” is one of those values that shows up enough that you can select it as an option and it will auto-tag those as

amenity=toilets
toilets:disposal=pitlatrine
