Can I see how you would edit a map to create an accessible trail?

Hi
I’d like to use OSM to create an accessible trail through our local woods for wheelchair users. Is anyone able to demonstrate how best to do this please. I am based in South East London and not quite sure where to start. Thank you.

“Create” as in add to OpenStreetMap (does the trail exist in reality) or “create” as in it would be nice to have such a path in reality?

Thanks for the reply. Create as in add to a map and show any useful info like steps / slope gradients etc.

Can you link us to the path/region in question?

Then it’s “just” a matter of adding the correct tags, based on what’s specified in Disabilities - OpenStreetMap Wiki ;)

If you’ve got an Android phone, you can do a lot of that (but not gradients) by installing the StreetComplete app, enabling the tasks which relate to pedestrians (blue background) and walking the trail.

Thank you Robert. I have an iphone and it looks as if StreetComplete isn’t built for iphones at the moment. Do you know of any easy to use iphone apps which do the same thing please?

On iOS you can use Go Map!! - OpenStreetMap Wiki!!
"But " it is a fairly full-fledged editor app, not a ‘directed’ one like StreetComplete.

Another wiki page that may be helpful

section with steps can be added by editing path at openstreetmap.org splitting path at points where steps start and end, and switching that section to steps

(if that is unclear feel free to ask for tutorial)

Hi Mateusz

Thank you so much for the info and for the offer of a tutorial. Let me take a look.

Best wishes

oh, and if you are trying to edit on iPhone: get that GoMap!! app, see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Go_Map!!

I now have the app. Thank you for all the help on this chat.
