Howdy! It’s been a good run, but life is getting the best of me and I haven’t had as much time to be involved in OSM over the past year. I’ll be stepping down from moderation as soon as we find replacements for me and @ElliottPlack.
We are seeking 2 moderators. Please use the space below to nominate yourself or another community member below. If someone nominates you, you are free to accept or decline.
This topic will remain open for 14 days (until 2026-10-16), after which we will begin voting for the new moderation team.
Thank you all for your work as moderators. I’ve appreciated the tone you have set in this portion of the community.
I’m self-nominating for this. I really appreciate the US community and would like to support it. I deeply care about community building and have experience in community moderation. This includes administering other installations of Discourse, so I’m familiar with the tools
Quite a bit of my participation in this forum is already working to de-escalate tense conversations, and get people to see each other’s perspectives. Moderation is a natural next step, if the community agrees.
One question I have is around how much time you all have needed to perform any moderation. I imagine it varies, but would want to make sure I can provide the support needed
Thank you for stepping forward, @Spatialia! The overall time investment for moderation actions has not been too large, though there have been some cases where I’ve put in more time for a nuanced situation. Most of time I spend is just keeping up with reading (or at least skimming) the US category topics so I can be aware if tensions are rising.
As category moderators, our tools are more limited than full site moderators[1]. So some things have to be handled by the site moderators anyway. There are only two of them currently and ideally we should probably have a few more (in case anyone is interested in taking on that role as well).
In the interest of having a healthy selection in light of the OSMF board election having as many seats as candidates, I’d like to nominate myself for moderator.
I’ve been active here and on the wider forum quite regularly in the past few months, and I’ve been contributing in the US for almost 6 years now. I headed the charge to the forum in its infancy by bringing import proposals here, and I’d be happy to serve as US moderator.
