Hello all,
I’ve been looking to start a trail bridge inspection program within interested municipalities of Nepal.
I am a structural / bridge asset engineer in the UK, close to retirement, and see this could be an enjoyable pastime, as well as good way to volunteer within Nepal.
I have done some research and, through Helvetas and the Nepali Department of Roads, have approx. 10,000 geolocated trail bridges and approx. 2,500 road bridges.
As with the recent disaster, this is a moving target, with some washed away, some rebuilt etc., not to mention some not registered yet, and some registered that have been removed years ago.
I have loaded the above data to Google Maps Pro Desktop, along with municipality ward boundaries (6,700), and have been effectively auditing individual municipalities in satellite view, and bird’s-eye view, which seems to work quite well. Here are a few examples, if you use the “All bridges” file as an overview, then all the rest are close-ups.
In conjunction with this, I hope to take some trips to Nepal to check out some of these interested municipalities, and am wondering if
- the bridge number referencing and official names can be loaded to OSM
- if anyone would like to “audit” some municipalities, and do site visits to check these bridges out on site.
Regards
Ian Mitchell
