Danke,
Salim
Hi flohoff, thank you for coming back to the thread. It is always good to have input, and your Aachen LoD2 finding in post #15 was an important data point for the wider conversation.
Two things from our side:
-
- We are not pushing. The whole point of the 20-building pilot was precisely to put concrete output in front of the community before going any further. If the result is not good enough, we can always adjust. The “revert” offer stands without discussion.
-
- “Berlin Umweltatlas” and I hope I am right, is probably a different product from NRW LoD2. “Berlin Umweltatlas Gebäudehöhen” is derived from airborne Laserscan (LiDAR), the
hoehefield is the Firsthöhe (ridge height) sampled per building, and the publisher documents the accuracy.

It is possible that Berlin Umweltatlas is not perfect. Our position is that adding building heights is a valuable improvement and addition to OSM where the source is well documented and the result is vastly verifiable per building. For Berlin, the majority of buildings still lack a height tag. Filling that gap with documented values is, in our view a win, provided that every step is auditable and reversible.
We want to work this out with the community, not around it. If after looking at the 20 pilot buildings you still see systematic issues, we want to hear from you and others.
Thank you,
Salim
