Bike trail line color and type -- Newbie Question

On nearby bike trails, I see solid blue lines, dashed blue lines, and dashed red lines. All of these are trails that are asphalt and are “private” – that is, for walking or cycling, not sidewalks and not available for use by motor vehicles. There is also one blue dashed line that is a former rail bed, now an electric utility line access dirt road.

I see on the Legend that blue dashed is cycleway, and red dashed is footway. But on the map (Newburyport, MA, USA) the best cycle paths are solid blue which isn’t on the legend.

Assuming I can learn how to change these, should they all be dashed blue? Thanks, Jim

Don’t think in terms of colour and symbols - the map you’re looking at is just one of many made from OpenStreetMap data, and they each have their own stylesheets that determine what they show in what colour.

The important thing is to make sure that the fields you see in the map editor are correct, particularly with regard to access permissions (are bikes allowed?) and surface (asphalt? gravel? dirt?). Once you’ve got that right, the maps will sort themselves out.
