(apologies for English)

Michael, you could just ask me a friendly question on #osm-dev, you don’t have to tie yourself in knots with long speculative messages.

When it’s clearer what’s happening with P2 then the osm.org instance will get a splash screen explaining the options.

As Simon has explained, P2 has for a very long time used editor-layer-index to get imagery. If OSMF confirms their proposal to fund the conversion to AIR, I intend (in due course) also to convert P2 to use an existing source of presets. It’s silly maintaining two separate sets of core presets, let alone three or four or five.

There are numerous things that P2 does, and iD and JOSM don’t. There are also lots of things that P2 does differently and that its users find more comfortable. You don’t have to be one of them yourself - that’s fine, we all have our preferences. But you could give those people who choose to use P2 - and given that obstacles that browsers put in the way of running Flash apps, it is an active choice - the decency of respecting their choice.
