did this change somehow break the really nice feature that created clickable links out of things like “access=yes” in direct messages?

I’m looking now and I’m seeing that nothing gets autolinked in direct messages, but if that’s a recent change, it must be due to something else as I can’t see how that specific PR could be related.
I must admit that I don’t remember what the specific behaviour was supposed to be there, from the top of my mind. We have slight differences between different types of messages and they confuse me too.

Gotta be honest about creating an issue on github: I’d rather be crawling the wiki and keep inserting links by hand into my DMs than go there. Sorry.
Thanks for flagging this issue. Do you have an example of a reference to an element that isn’t getting linked automatically? At a glance, I’m still seeing element reference links (compare with the changeset XML) and tag reference links.
The examples you link are in changesets and their comments and discussion. Those seem to work fine.
I raised the issue because the autolinking in DMs doesn’t work for me (anymore?). I frequently try to help newbies and that also happens via DM. The autolink is really making life easier
Ah! I’m unaware of us having implemented the feature for Markdown fields like diary entries or direct messages, but it is on our radar:
It is absolutely possible that I mixed something up and only thought that autolinking worked in DMs.
I will surely come around and leave a big thank you once it is implemented
