Auto-populate latitude and longitude in Excel - Excel add-in

Hi… I’m totally new here

Having an Excel sheet with 4 columns:

Country
State
County
Place

I’m looking for an Excel add-in, which is getting latitude and longitude for the next to columns rom openstreetmap.

Any idea or download link?

Hi and welcome to OSM and the forum

I’m not aware of any Excel-PlugIn for OSM. You might need to build your own appliction for this.

For your request:
Countries, states, counties in OSM are mostly areas (defined by multiple nodes each with a lat and long value), so there is no single lat/lon for them.
“place” is a special key in OSM. You might want to compare your definition of “place” with the OSM-Tag for “place” ( https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:place )

I’m sure it can be done with Google Maps, but why suggest using that on an OSM forum? There are many different ways that one could achieve the same result using the OSM ecosystem of tools. The Overpass API is probably the best way to do it. While not an Excel add-in, a solution could be made that uses a CSV file.
