Approved: Power circuits proposal

Dear tagging members,

Voting has been resumed on previously discussed Power circuits routing proposal.
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposal:Power_circuits_routing

Several stages of review has already been processed.

1st voting round held between 2025-05-26 and 2025-06-03, rejected with useful comments.

2nd voting round began on 2025-06-26 and is expected to end on 2025-07-20 11pm CEST

it has first of all being closed on 2025-07-10 with 9 pros and 0 cons and reopened today on the lack of proper announcement on tagging mailing list.

As explained on the page, this proposal aims to unify existing tagging practices about power circuits.

  • It is surveyable, mostly by following power lines or reading towers’ plates or colors on their bottom. It is useful to maintain power lines consistency and valuable mainly for countries seeking to master their energy transition.
  • No imports are planed.
  • All expected knowledge with proposed tagging is verifiable on ground, no exception.

You are kindly invited to give your opinion about it at the bottom of the page and I remain available in case of questions.

Best regards

François

Dear all,

Following the end of the vote, the power circuits proposal is approved with 15 pros and 0 cons.

It’s an important step towards a sustainable and unique way of tagging power circuits along power lines and it was important to review what as been on stake for 8 years.
However, work is not over on this matter. Improvements are still welcome to be discussed.

Clean up of type=route, replaced by type=power is expected to begin shortly. We will start to discuss it in France in coming days.
Most prominent features will be available soon on following pages:
