I am new to the forum and have the following question:
I have downloaded JOSM and I like to view arial-photos, to transfer details onto my map.
Question: where do I find the function SETTINGS ( Einstellungen)?

Hallo Kurt

First of all, welcome to OSM and the forum.

First step: You need to install the WMS-Plugin.
Second step: You need to install “webkit image”, see: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/JOSM/Plugins/WMSPlugin#Mac_OS_X
Part 1: Install the development environment either from your system disks or by downloding it from Apple.
Part 2: Install Qt SDK
Part 3: Download webkit-image

PS: You are in Forum users:Germany,
thus the default language is surprisingly: german!
