Announcement: OpenLandcoverMap

A small bump. :)

The main update: the project is still alive and mantained.
It got a new dark theme, so it looks much better now IMHO :)

Some minor improvements since the last year:

  • The legend has been added to both the map page and used tags page. So the map become much more understandable.
  • New About page was created, where used generalization methods are briefly described.
  • We even got some kind of quality control tool to find emty hexes, were no landcover can be established.

Another interesting thing for now is the list of “not rendered” tags:

natural=drainage_basin
landuse=government
landuse=inundation_area
landuse=irrigation_district
landuse=logistics
landuse=mine
landuse=oil_field
landuse=oilfield
natural=playa
landuse=rangeland
landuse=rocket_range
natural=sediment
landuse=spoils
natural=till
natural=wash
landuse=wind
landuse=wind_farm
landuse=windfarm

Objects with those are tags are prominent (i.e. large) enough to appear on the generalized map, but I cannot do anything better than just render them in black, because those tags are NOT described in the OSM-wiki, and nowbody can say what they were indended to mean.

So, if someone takes the liberty of describing them on the wiki or retaging the corresponding objects with documented tags, it would be really nice.
