I want to mark a university building as having air conditioning, but there does not seem to be a tag. Was curious as to why this was the case. Thanks!
air_conditioning=* is the tag you are looking for. It exists for a long time, but it started being rapidly mapped last few weeks due to the heat hitting the western Europe.
It’s strange that you didn’t find this tag earlier though. Buildings are also features, “feature” isn’t only a POI.

If you are talking about iD editor, it doesn’t show all available tags of OSM, only a portion of them, in the form of “presets”. That’s why a mapper needs to search the wiki and Taginfo to find a tag the better suits them, exactly because iD (and other editors which work with presets) don’t contain all the possible tags.
Also, if a preset is missing a field for a key that’s already well-established and reasonable to combine with the preset’s tags, you can suggest it in this issue tracker.
