It looks like communication between you and him isn’t occurring. You’ve said that you want it to stop, as have other people, and he’s aware of what you said (based on posts here and in the German topic), but for whatever reason the people who don’t like the meerkats / AI mice / misspellings haven’t provided enough of a persuasive argument for the person responsible for posting them to stop, and since he is basically the only JOSM maintainer left he’s the person you need to persuade.
When I asked “What do you think is the best way to make that thing happen?” that was a political rather than a technical question - essentially “how do you intend to persuade him?”. I’m pretty sure, based on what’s happened so far, that more mailing list posts won’t have that effect.
Five people have agreed with your post above - maybe if more people could try and explain why they personally are upset by crap AI ferrets in JOSM rather than just saying “it must stop” there might be more chance of persuading JOSM’s author to change direction.
