Hi!
Please check Way: Konopiska Airfield (1510585291) | OpenStreetMap and it’s runway. The airstrip is officaily ~600m long. And it’s true length mark-to-mark, but trully it’s over 800m right now. trees were cut, ground was cleaned and “hardened”.
So, you know the background and now the question:
How it should ber mapped? Should it stay as it is right now? Should I leave aeroway=runway and extend area:aeroway=runway only? Or maybe both aeroway=runway and area:aeroway=runway should be extended? Maybe there is other proper way of mapping airstrips?
The extended clear area isn’t part of the runway. Depending on the purpose, it’s either a stopway (emergency stopping area in the event of a runway overrun) or a clearway (area clear of obstacles to permit climbing out). See Runway - Wikipedia and Tag:aeroway=stopway - OpenStreetMap Wiki
Yes, it is part of the runway… Unofficially, unfortunatelly. It was declared to Civil Aviation Authority only ~600 m because of already existing signs and also because beginning part of “05” can’t be “hardened”. Nevertheless about 700-800 m is used daily as a strip. It’s not visible on any fotomap I know how it currently look like. Extending of the runway was done last Autumn and Spring. You can find more data here: Lotniska · Konopiska .
I read more and I’d say it looks more like runway=displaced_threshold than stopway.
