Either way, whether it’s an import or not, just because it’s a human copying data from a map layer doesn’t mean the licence of the data in the map layer doesn’t matter! We couldn’t do a Maproulette of “dear human, please copy data from Google” nor “please copy data from Canada Post”, and until the OGL-Oakville licence is approved, it’s the same thing.
Yes it’s a formality. Yes we need to do it.
(Personally I think the Licensing Working Group should have just put out a blanket approval for all OGL-derived licences in Canada, but until they do, we get to pester them one by one. The more we ask, the more likely they’ll give a blanket approval, maybe?!)
Toronto Address Import will continue to observe city data, and will monthly add new address nodes reported, remove unlisted ones. I updated wiki to say that this improt is Continuous, not One-Time. Just finished another maintenance run maint-snap113 (2026-07-22 → 2026-08-27)**:

Retirements surfaced: 25 — 22 deleted by hand after review, 0 left in place though untouched since import, 0 community-touched, 2 on a building or POI, 1 with no OSM match. Nothing is ever deleted automatically.
Running total since maintenance began: 4 changesets, 103 addresses (2026-06-05 → 2026-08-28).
I also noticed that, I sent a letter to LWG on 2026-08-18 “Request for review: six Ontario municipal OGL variants – Oakville, Brantford, Dufferin, Huron, Kitchener, Sarnia”. So far not even acknowledgement that they received it. What should I do?

Does that mean I should still send a request for them to approve the Town of Oakville’s license? Or should I hold off on that since you already did this?
It looks like Oakville may have been explicitly declined by LWG. See Oakville under Canada - OpenStreetMap Wiki .
Now I’m wondering what that means for the changesets I created so far the past few months for my MapRoulette challenge. Initially, I was doing the building footprints in one changeset and then adding the building addresses to them in a second changeset, just in case there was any issue with the Oakville data. But, then I started feeling like I was worrying too much about it and used combined changesets, and instructed other volunteers to too.

Nah, the “Not accepted for import into OSM due to name and licence text being different” is just standard text for the OGL-CityName variants that haven’t been cleared yet
I followed the procedure in OGL Canada and local variants - OpenStreetMap Foundation. I ended up adding Oakville to the list of Ontario municipalities in Contributors - OpenStreetMap Wiki because while following the procedure, I determined that the license from the Town of Oakville was acceptable under the criteria listed there, and the procedure says to go ahead and add the municipality yourself if you reach this conclusion. It also says I have to email legal-questions@osmfoundation.org and tell them that I’ve done this, including my logic, so I did that.
