Addr:full in Switzerland

The addr:full notes "

Use this for a full-text, often multi-line, address if you find the structured address fields unsuitable for denoting the address of this particular location. Examples: “Fifth house on the left after the village oak, Smalltown, Smallcountry”, or addresses using special delivery names or codes (possibly via an unrelated city name and post code), or PO Boxes.
Beware that these strings can hardly be parsed by software: “1200 West Sunset Boulevard Suite 110A” is still better represented as addr:housenumber=1200 + addr:street=West Sunset Boulevard + addr:unit=110A."

I noticed the other day a user who adds it to a building that has the same as an address node (simple addr:* format: street, number, NPA, city). This doesn’t appear consistent with the above. The user doesn’t respond to changeset comments and didn’t even leave a meaningful summary of their actions.

There is a thread about the use of “addr:full” in Estonia: Removal of addr:full tag from Estonian addresses suggesting its removal due to lack of updates and the information being present elsewhere.

Do we want to add more addr:full tags? Remove addr:full where it’s already present? What to do with mappers who keep adding this?

I think it’s better to have the “full” address data separated into the respective addr:street, address:housenumber, addr:postcode, and address:city values instead of putting all the data into one address:full value.

Editors should respond to changeset comments, and provide good changeset comments. From your description I have a hunch which user you want to speak about; did they also add WikiData QIDs?

Yes, but I’m not sure if that part is relevant.

Here is a list of all of them in Switzerland: overpass turbo
There aren’t that many (ca. 2000). Most can probably be converted fairly easily.

Most are also consistently formatted, but many lack “addr:street”: overpass turbo

An improvement could be to:

  • add “addr:street” etc based on addr:full
  • remove a few inconsistent “addr:full”, if “addr:street” is present (or after it was added).

Just a note on the side: you probably should be using the SOSM overpass-turbo instance https://overpass-turbo.osm.ch/ given the load issues on the global overpass servers.

Thanks. I’m aware of the alternatives. For this query, it would have been a good fit. In general, each sever has it’s drawbacks: on osm.ch it’s the older map tiles.
